Carts/Totes are used for residential collection services. These receptacles are commonly used to service HOAs and private homes. Common cart size options are 32 gallons, 64 gallons, and 96 gallons. A common service program that satisfies the average household is a two-three cart system.

Standard Residential Service: One (1) 96-gallon cart for trash and one (1) 96-gallon cart for recycling. Your standard residential collection schedule is a service frequency of one (1) pickup per week (on both carts).

For states with food waste regulation (i.e., California), we recommend a three-cart system to service trash, recycling, and food waste scraps. A service frequency of one (1) pickup per week (on all three carts) is your standard residential collection schedule.

The most common service schedule for residential areas is one pickup per week.

Acceptable Items:

• Municipal solid waste

• Wood

• Diapers

• Foam cups

• Razors

• Sheet glass (mirrors, windows, etc.)

• Pet feces

• Non-fluorescent light bulbs

• Glassware & ceramic dishes/cups

• Juice boxes & pouches

• Hoses and wire

• Contaminated recyclables (i.e., oil-stained pizza boxes)

Non-acceptable Items:

• Hazardous or flammable items

• Paint and paint containers

• Batteries

• Fluorescent light bulbs

• Electronics

• Prescription medications

• Used motor oil & filters

• Bulky items that are too large and heavy for your regular trash cart

Acceptable Items:

• Cardboard

• Bottles

• Metal Cans

• Paper

• Plastic

• Glass (varies by location)

Non-acceptable Items:

• Plastic bags

• Sheet glass (windows, mirrors, etc.)

• Foam cups

• Juice pouches & boxes

• Ceramic dishes, glassware, and cups

• Bulky items that are too large and heavy for your regular recycling cart

A bulk pickup is a service offered to support the disposal of more oversized items that cannot fit in standard carts or containers. Ask a USA Environmental Services representative about our bulk pickup service offerings.
